FEATURED PROJECT

Custom Stonework & Plantings

Location: Alexandria

Client Objectives for Landscape:

The client’s objectives for the landscape were to add more color to the front of the house, conceal the concrete front porch and steps, update the front walkway, replace the entire lawn with sod, and direct water to the back of the house through proper grading.
Campbell & Ferrara was selected because we provided a comprehensive landscape design that solved the issues they were dealing with on their property. They also wanted a company that could coordinate the project with the other contractors involved.

Main Features:

The main features of the project are the hardscaping elements. The Carderock® veneer of the front porch, the PA variegated flagstone of the porch overlay and walkway, and the colonial flagstone stacked walls provide a striking contrast with the white painted brick of the house. To soften the hardscaping, a variety of plants were installed to provide year-round interest.
Upon completion of the project, the client was extremely satisfied and amazed by how dramatically it transformed his property.

Special or Unusual Features:

A special feature of the project is the front porch and steps. The client’s initial focus was primarily on the utility of the porch and the steps. However, after proposing veneering the porch and overlaying the steps with flagstone, the client loved the visual impact. This design choice seamlessly tied the rest of the hardscaping elements together and complemented the white brick façade of the house.

Major Challenges:

A major challenge the crew faced was uncovering an old concrete walkway buried in the front yard. It interfered with part of the new walkway and the sod installation. The crew successfully removed the entire walkway.
