Client’s Objectives for Landscape:

Create a more usable space for their existing deck and the space underneath.

Main Features:  

The existing wood deck was replaced with a composite deck. The new deck is accented with aluminum balusters, creating a more contemporary look. The area underneath the deck was also renovated; the old brick patio and walkways were replaced with flagstone, leaving a more usable space. At the base of the deck’s staircase, the overgrown shrubbery was removed, and a seating wall was built to complement the existing stone walls. This aesthetic feature provides extra seating, serves as a border separating the patio area, and is a deterrent to encroaching vegetation. The landscape lighting was also upgraded, improving safety and increasing the client’s ability to enjoy their landscape into the evening.

Major Challenges:

Time was of the essence. The project started at the beginning of summer and had to be finished by the end of summer. Without a recent land survey, a new one was required. This delay made the project more exciting. After receiving the updated survey, the project was ready to be permitted. The composite deck had to be built and approved before the patio underneath could begin. These obstacles were overcome in a timely manner, allowing the project to finish on time.

Special or Unusual Features:

The best materials available were used to create this beautiful project. The clients enjoy being able to walk out from their basement doors onto their gorgeous new outdoor living space. Day or night, this patio increases the amount of time they can enjoy the outdoors.
