FEATURED PROJECT

Integrative Solution

Location: Alexandria, VA

Client’s Objectives for their landscape:

Create an interactive and functional outdoor space for relaxing and entertaining their family and friends now and into the future. They wanted to include a firepit and patio, an ‘adult’ patio, plantings, and to eliminate the mud so their 2 boys and their dog would have ample solid dry surfaces to run and play.

Main Features of the Landscape Project:

The project features a new flagstone patio with a stacked stone wall and walkway that leads to an adjoining upper second patio, complete with a stone seat wall on the back side and a fire pit for warmth, ambiance, and making s’mores.

Stone pathways throughout the property and stone steps were incorporated into the slope to create a functional and fully useable backyard with separate solid, level areas. The stone pathways lead you throughout the yard using few steps.

Lighting throughout the yard accents the features within the space, improves safety, increases security, and extends into the evening the family’s use of their outdoor living spaces.

Special or Unusual Features:

The lot is pie shaped and slopes up toward the back of the property. The design made the area spacious and useable by changing the grade in some areas, building small retaining walls, and including walkways with steps for safety and circulation.

Major Challenges:

The backyard property had an awkward slope and pie shape, requiring grading and the building of small walls. The existing wall needed to be elongated and rebuilt.
